Yes, that was really my question. Why make it sound like
it's anything new, when in fact it seems like UDI could
be *identical* to HDMI.

They make it sound like it's replacing VGA, but I heard
that same song back when DVI was invented. VGA has
already been replaced, in terms of standards available
out there.

And of course the real reason for DVI was to layer HDCP
over it, so even that isn't anything new. And HDMI
already addressed the cheaper connector, the mandatory
HDCP, and the incorporation of digital audio.

When a new standard is being worked that doesn't provide
anything new, my suspicion is that someone is trying to
take control away from someone else.
