For National Opera Week, I'll be doing a "Fandom of the Opera" lecture at the National Opera Center in New York, 330 Seventh Avenue (between 28th & 29th Streets), Thursday, November 1, at 6:30 pm. It should last less than an hour.

It will trace opera's influence on the media over the centuries, from 16th-century printing to 17th-century sound transmission, 18th-century motion image projection, 19th-century newscasts & sportscasts, and 20th-century Cinerama, to 21st-century neutrino communications. There's much more, of course. Here's a slightly larger description: http://www.schubincafe.com/2012/10/19/the-fandom-of-the-opera-illustrated-lecture/

Admission is free, but seating is limited. I hope to see you there.

TTFN,
Mark
