Hi, Yesterday they've carried a quad-HD display into the lab: LCD (direct view) 56" 3840x2160 pixels. Wauwww. Wanna have... You can't see the pixels until you're like 30 cm close. Now start dreaming of your favorite application ! Greetings, -- Jeroen YES!!! Actually, I saw about 4 or 5 (plus some plain Full HD) LCD's on a row today. Not the big one though, the 56" CMO panel based Astrodesign, is left for tomorrow's quick visit to hall 11. Not sure if Frontniche only brought their < 46" CRT replacement series or also the 56" 4K model, might try and do a quick run through hall 12 and the mobile zone, which basically is the same part of the conference center (the back part of what used to be the IBC party area). I also managed to get into the UHDTV Theater (finally, had to stand though, so couldn't sit in the middle, but the viewangle of the projection seemed wide enough, probably a 1.0 gain screen), some amazing pictures and some that could have been better. The sound was rather poor though, booming, hence blooming bass at the beginning was quite annoying. Also there seemed to be some issues with depth of field and or (ansi) contrast(?) especially apparant in the first half of the presentation (up till the Cherry Blossom tree, afterwards it was much better (Sunflowers, bees, craps, and so on, were very goods sequences, I thought). The fine detail that was present all over the screen did not really stand out because of this. This made that you need to refocus to see all of the detail present, and yes there's plenty of detail present. Following Mark Schubin's 20/20 vision optimum viewing distance in relation to pictureheight guidelines (the calculation and explaination behind these I can't find anymore:-( ), this should be viewed at around .75 times the pictureheight, and i am sure there was no visible structure at that point or even a bit closer (my poor eyes probably would have allowed me to come up all the way to the screen;-)). Afterwards, I also notices some unclarity in the image coming from the live roofcamera 8K resampled to 4K and HD, particularly the pioneer adsign in the middle of the square. The column caries three of those, two of wich visible from the camera's site. The left one was unclear, the righthand sign was clear, even after zooming out the difference remained, the Japanese research engineer explained that this was caused by chromatic abberation. So, who else saw the 8K demo, and what did you think? Donald P.S. missed the various Red Cinema demonstrations, and the renewed Sony Showreel and the commercial version of the 4K projector, saw the pre-production model back at ISE 2005, so that's 18 months ago, have not been able to have had a closer look since. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
