Today, I emailed our local ABC affiliate, KTNV, regarding problems with receiving both the NTSC signal (channel 13) and the ATSC signal (channel 12). The problem has been going on for several days and is getting worse. This morning, neither the NTSC or ATSC signal was usable and is essentially off the air. I received a response from KTNV that they are doing everything possible to restore over-the-air service but anticipates problems until August 26 (see email below) which means they will be off the air for about a week. There is nothing on their website that provides information on the problem nor does a search reveal such. (http://www.ktnv.com/) Now it is probably nothing new that a transmitter is experience problems, but now that cable and satellite receive feeds by different paths, a failed transmitter is probably not as important. Also, one might read into the fact that they aren't communicating it to anyone. Dan P.S.: The message at the bottom says I am not to distribute the email. However, since it says it is a "Public Statement", I assume I am okay to quote it. ----- Forwarded by Dan Grimes/UNLV on 08/22/2008 12:50 PM ----- TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES PUBLIC STATEMENT 8/22/08 KTNV is currently experiencing technical difficulties. The signals on Cox cable and satellite are uninterrupted. However, in certain outlying areas, there is a problem with other cable providers that we expect will be fixed shortly. KTNV is doing everything possible to restore OVER-THE-AIR service, but we anticipate intermittent problems until August 26. We apologize for the inconvenience.
