Network investment is down, layoffs abound, and networks are falling apart.
This isn't the glorious future Ajit Pai promised.

Yet the lying crook in charge at the FCC claims that Title II slowed investment
(it did not, as plenty had already reported previously), and that his public
display of corruption did spur investment. Which we now see, unsurprisingly, is
also a lie.
That doesn't stop him, or his pea-brained, paranoid acolytes, from repeating
the lies, of course. As they continue to not get what net neutrality means. You
know, like "it's government control of the Internet," or the nonsense that
Internet access was never mandated to be neutral.
The one excuse the Chairman has made publically, for allowing non-neutral
service, appears to allude to zero rating. He claims that this is "popular with
the public." I suppose flat out blocking of alternatives would also be popular
with the public? And zero rating was not forbidden between 2015 and 2018. I've
nothing against zero rating, just make it neutral! Don't put monthly data caps
on streaming any video. Done. That will be truly fine with consumers.
Why the repeal did nothing to help spur investment is obvious. Local
competition for service is almost non-existent, and for very sound, economic
reasons. Like any utility requiring large capital outlays. It should be just as
obvious that 5G won't change anything, in this regard. Allowing non-neutral
behavior only allows the greedy to become greedier. As it was in 1906, and it
is continuing to be today.
