And I responded to this last time around. This is a trivial problem, Craig. You
equip broadcast receivers with even something as simple as a telephone line, to
indicate to some phone number, or Internet site, what channel the tuner is
tuned to. This is too simple and too lacking in flexibility, and future growth,
to be bothered with. But at least, it requires zero change to the ATSC 1.0
broadcast format. Do you not remember that I explained this?

Compare this, instead, to having actual Internet connectivity. No comparison,
right?

You are the one who claimed that the ATSC would require
broadcasters to build Two-way cellular networks as part of the
requirements.

Which is a whole other ball game. I've repeated this many times, Craig. You
must have come to understand how non-linear TV distribution is the future (and
the present), by now. Perhaps you can appreciate why I don't place a lot of
emphasis on the broadcast aspects of ATSC 3.0? If the broadcasters want to
branch way out of their old stomping grounds, and pool their spectrum for
subscription cellular services, well, that might get interesting indeed.

Many broadcasters disagree that they should shut down.

Me too. For some time, ATSC 1.0 is going to do just fine. For example, I find
out just today that my son-in-law is cutting the cord all the way. He used to
be a cord shaver. So I've given them some pointers, including the results of
tvfool.com, and options for antennas that should fit their needs. I'm skeptical
that another redo of ATSC broadcast will gain a lot of traction, and it might
instead discourage use of OTA. People can easily jump on OTA anytime they
please, now. Make it difficult, requiring another transition, and all bets are
off.

And I've explained many times what broadcasters should be doing wrt Internet
service.
