Broadcast TV has never been about localism, other than news

When I made this same point, with respect to Chairman Pai's rhetoric
concerning how great broadcasting is because of "localism and diversity,"
CRaig couldn't understand what I was saying.
Correct. I cannot even remember what you said about this in a distant,
disconnected thread...
But, what would you expect the Chairman of the FCC to say about broadcasting?
I don't necessarily agree with Pai about the importance of broadcasting, but
the one area where it does still provide a valuable service is with new
immigrant communities, especially with the large number of hispanics in
California and other large cities. Spanish language channels are doing very
well.
But Bert still missed the main point - as an advertising medium TV is "King of
the Mountain." And local advertisers still rely on it, both local stations, and
local ads in MVPD programming.
Now he comes around and thinks he's saying something original.
There have not been many original thoughts on this list. We discuss issues
related to Digital TV and the evolution of digital media. The whole point is to
analyze and discuss the massive amount of news and content that others create
related to this subject. Even more important, we debunk the massive amount of
FUD and "Fake News" being created by people who are paid to promote various
positions.
For example the totally meaningless chart that shows Netflix has more
subscribers than the cable companies that make up 95% of the cable market,
which represents about half of all MVPD subscriptions. Never mind that the
market for MVPD subscriptions is at least 10 times larger than the market for
SVOD subscriptions.
Perhaps the fact that Bert sees no reason for localism in broadcasting should
be considered...
He would replace our broadcast systems with the type of national broadcast
systems found in many parts of Europe. You know, the systems that are creating
a huge market in Europe for Netflix and others who offer popular alternatives
to State run propaganda machines.

Craig
