Does it really matter Bert? Even if the Democrats can bring a vote in both
houses and send it to the President, there is no chance they could over-ride a
presidential veto.
Just another symbolic effort that will waste time and do nothing.
Too bad that Congress cannot find the time and consensus to focus efforts on
updating the Communications Act and defining Net Neutrality in legislation.
Maybe Markey and his peers are afraid to open Pandora’s Box - a serious attempt
to update U.S. Communications policy could fundamentally change a century of
heavy handed regulation of natural monopolies. No need to return to Title II
Regulation if the FCC is deregulated out of existence...
That has to remain at the forefront, so even Republican constituents will
know if their representatives are working against their interests, as much as
the corrupt FCC is trying to do. Emphasize that the vote is to *oppose the
FCC permission* to block, throttle, and prioritize. Don't cloak this with
emphasis on obscure "Title II" verbiage, which will go right over the heads
of the vast majority.
One problem Bert. You keep ignoring the polls that told us that the MAJORITY of
voters DO NOT support Title II regulation of ISPs. The issue is not Net
Neutrality, but continuing government regulation of communications services.
The corrupt FCC had ample opportunity to try to obtain neutrality mandates by
other means, as indeed previous FCC Chairmen had attempted, but failed to do.
This time around, hey, the Chairman didn't even try. Instead, he gives full
blessing to any non-neutral behavior the monopolies can dream up, encourages
it, even. "Innovative," he calls it. Put that in front of the voters, plain
as day, and see how "innovatively" they boot you out of office.
The FCC just did what you asked. They have returned to the light handed
regulatory regime that existed before Obama and Wheeler forced the Title II
decision.
Nobody has given the blessing to non neutral behavior by the ISPs, or any Edge
Provider for that matter. The real issue here is dealing with non-competitive
behavior, which is the charter of the FTC.
Once again, this entire debate is focused on the fear that ISPs will behave
badly, while the reality is that many Edge providers ARE behaving badly.
I am beginning to hear rumblings that the Democrats will use net neutrality as
a core issue in the 2018 elections. Good luck with that!

Craig
