I've been in at least two conversations over the last year or so where
"NBC's HD strategy" (or lack of same) was mentioned. Last night, while
watching some channel on Cox Cable San Diego, I got the first hint of some
the strategy.

This channel was announced as being available on Cox Cable's HD tier. NBC
operates (but, in the strictest sense, does not own) KNSD-TV/DT San Diego.
Since retrans agreements were renegotiated in the last few months (every
three years, since the fall of 1992), it's logical to assume that carriage
of this channel on Cox was part of a retrans agreement.

Personally, I'd prefer to see a more exensive channel than one that
repeats -- in HDTV -- series cancelled in their first year on a network or
programs that are currently available in SDTV elsewhere. Of course, due to
constrained capacity ota, this channel could not be offered via terrestrial.
