OMG
I have never seen this country so polarized as is the case today. Seems that
this atmosphere inspires absurd conspiracy theories, and the kind of “Fake
News” that would have made PRAVDA proud.
Had brunch with my family yesterday and spent most of the time debating net
neutrality with my 38 year old son, who lives on the Internet as a gamer, while
he is streaming movies on the second screen of his PC.
He is convinced that his life online is coming to an end. It almost makes me
want to believe the yahoos who are claiming that reversing the Title II
decision will be the end of the Internet and our Democracy
;-)
Never mind that we live in a Constitutional Republic, but who knew, as they
don’t teach this in schools anymore. This was obvious in the article that is
the subject of this thread.
First, it never addresses what the headline states. It provides some quotes
from both sides, but tells us nothing about what happens after the FCC votes to
reverse the Title II decision.
Second, some of the comments are not only absurd, but completely ignore the
fact that what they are predicting has been happening with “Edge Providers” for
years. Like this one:
Payne believes the Trump administration wants Internet companies to hamper
the online activities of liberal activists, by blocking access to their
websites. “They will have access to all the Internet and its tools to help
them organize when 2018 comes along,” she said. “We won’t, because they will
be able to block websites that are progressive, that are left-leaning, that
are Democratic-leaning.”
“I feel that we are headed toward a one-party government, a de facto end of
democracy,” said protester Andrea Payne, 61, of Dorchester. “If you control
communications in any society, then you control that society, and that’s what
they’re attempting to do.”
