I don't know about VCRs, but really DVDRs are very similar, only better. They too can record up to 8 hours on one DVD+RW or DVD-RW (most seem to work with either disc these days). Or you can make more archival copies on record-once discs. I've been using my DVDR very much like a hard drive recorder for the past few years, just recording over the same disc over and over. Which is why I decided to go for a DVDR with built-in hard drive. Time for Thanksgiving dinner. (We have it late.) Happy Thanksgiving all.
