For what it's worth, even "Internet TV," which I am distinguishing from IPTV, seems to be going to a walled garden of sorts. During the World Cup, for example, I could not access RAI news online. Only IP source addresses from accepted locations could apply. (Should not be terribly hard to defeat, of course, but now we know there's intent to wall in. And the walls can be strengthened, if they want to.) Today, TF1 offers past episodes of TV shows, like Lost, for a fee of 1.99 to 2.99 Euro. And yet, also in this case, only certain IP source addresses need apply. Mostly France and French territories. The walled garden mentality seems to be with us, and it's all said to be for "copyright agreements."
