data, while letting red laser beams, used for DVD=20
data. The film was embedded between the new=20
disc's Blu-ray data area, located 0.1 millimeter=20
deep from the surface, and its DVD area, at 0.6=20

JVC plans to mass produce a disc combining a=20
single-layer Blu-ray data area with a=20
33.5-gigabyte capacity and a 8.5-GB dual-layer=20
DVD area, starting in 2006 at the earliest.

The group is vying with another, led by Toshiba=20
Corp. , NEC Corp. and others, which is pushing=20
for the High-Definition DVD format.
