Sorry Bert, but what Quello is advocating is FAR MORE radical

Powell was simply trying to update FCC regulations; the FCC
would continue to micro manage the telecommunications industries.

Quello is advocating the abolishment of the FCC - not a unique
 or new idea.

I find that hard to believe, especially coming from someone who surely knows that the FCC's function is NOT limited to regulating FOTA radio and TV.

This is your agenda, Craig, which perhaps you think you see reflected in
other people's statements.

I got about 152,000 hits for "Abolish the FCC" at Google.

I got 12 hits for Abolish the FCC and Craig Birkmaier at Google.

Obviously the FCC regulates more than FOTA Radio and TV. If you were to read some of the 152,000 hits about the concept of abolishing the FCC, you would find that deregulation of all forms of telecommunications is at the heart of the concept.

The real problem is that it is nearly impossible to kill a federal government program, even when it has been shown to be useless or even counter-productive.

it is not an accident that virtually all "utilities' are now regulated by governments and run as ologopolies. Just look at the tax component on any utility bill. And this does not include the huge portion of the bill that is recovering fees paid to governments for spectrum, rights-of-way etc.

The only reason that OTA TV broadcasting still exists is must carry/retrans consent. Without this the networks would have pulled the plug on TV broadcasting a long time ago. Radio is another matter, as the service is ubiquitous and virtually all U.S. citizens use it.

Craig
