=46OUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 4 /PRNewswire/ --=20
D-Link, the global leader in the design and=20
development of connectivity and communications=20
technologies for the digital home and the small=20
to medium business markets today announced it is=20
working closely with Intel on the compatibility=20
of D-Link connectivity products with other=20
digital media devices and PCs, beginning with its=20
role as the first major networking device=20
manufacturer to secure the Intel NMPR Product=20
Validation for the D-Link MediaLounge Wireless=20
Media Player (DSM-320). D-Link recognizes the=20
need for UPnP* AV-based interoperability to=20
enable the transparent connectivity and sharing=20
of content between media players, set-top boxes,=20
digital storage products and PCs on a home=20
network. This seamless interaction between=20
devices will strengthen the future of the digital=20
home for consumers. D-Link engineers collaborated=20
with Intel developers throughout the extensive=20
Intel NMPR validation testing process to ensure=20
that the D-Link Wireless Media Player, as well as=20
future D-Link products, meets all of Intel's=20
requirements for network media interoperability.

D-Link is a member of the Digital Home Working=20
Group, a group dedicated to the development of=20
interoperability guidelines for digital devices=20
that are both PC-based and Consumer Electronics=20
(CE)-based. The Intel NMPR program is an existing=20
set of guidelines and tools defined by Intel that=20
enables products such as the D-Link Wireless=20
Media Player to easily move to the upcoming=20
Digital Home Working Group common=20
interoperability standard through a free firmware=20
upgrade.

"D-Link continues to show dedication to the UPnP=20
AV-based interoperability of its devices as=20
demonstrated by achieving Intel NMPR Validation,"=20
said Kevin Corbett, vice president and chief=20
technology officer, Intel's Desktop Platforms=20
Group. "We developed the Intel NMPR program to=20
ensure that digital media devices meet a set of=20
requirements so they will be compatible and will=20
seamlessly connect with PCs."

"It is great that a respected company like Intel=20
has taken the lead in the setting of guidelines=20
for interoperability between digital media=20
devices and PCs, and we look forward to working=20
with them as we develop the next generation of=20
networking connectivity for the digital home,"=20
said AJ Wang, CTO and Sr. VP of Technology,=20
D-Link. "We continue to be committed to=20
delivering maximum interoperability in=20
standards-based products for consumers."

The current Intel NMPR Validation requires=20
conformance with over 40 industry standards and=20
protocols. Required connectivity protocols=20
include the IEEE 802.3 wired Ethernet and IEEE=20
802.11 standards for wireless networking and the=20
UPnP and UPnP AV standards for seamless=20
installation and connectivity of media devices.

The D-Link MediaLounge Wireless Media Player=20
(DSM-320) is a stand-alone unit that resides=20
within a home entertainment center and connects=20
to the television and/or stereo using standard=20
A/V or S-video cables. For users with high-end=20
entertainment systems, the D-Link DSM-320=20
supports component video, optical digital audio=20
and coaxial digital audio connections. Using the=20
included remote control and step-by-step TV=20
interface, it is then easily connected to a home=20
network via 802.11g wireless, or if preferred,=20
through standard Ethernet cabling. With support=20
for the UPnP AV standard, the D-Link Wireless=20
Media Player can seamlessly find media content=20
files on the network from other UPnP AV-enabled=20
devices such as the D-Link Central Home Storage=20
Drive (DSM-602/4H) without installing additional=20
software.

The D-Link Wireless Media Player includes D-Link=20
MediaLounge Media Server Software for Windows=20
98SE, ME, 2000 or XP which intuitively compiles=20
digital content from network PCs and devices and=20
organizes it by file type (audio/video/photo),=20
cataloguing the individual audio files by=20
categories such as genre, artist and title for=20
immediate access through the Media Player.

Users can wirelessly locate and stream multiple=20
types of digital content from the Internet or=20
hard drive using the included remote control and=20
intuitive interface. The Player supports=20
virtually all digital content standards,=20
including the popular MP3, WAV, AIF and WMA audio=20
formats, the JPG, BMP, PNG, TIFF, JPG2000 and GIF=20
Image formats, the MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4,=20
Quicktime, AVI and XviD Video formats and the M3U=20
and PLS Audio Playlist formats. The Wireless=20
Media Player also supports streaming audio and=20
video Internet services including an exclusive=20
offer with the Radio@AOL for Broadband service=20
featuring Best of Breed radio programming.
