Though I must admit that at least the first generation of "Viper2" 
for the "Jaguar" platform was very much designed with CRTs in mind. 
We thought that 1080i @ 81 MS/s output rate was the ceiling.  :-( 

The memory based scaler contains some work of mine, and I was 
involved in several generations of the input and output processors 
where the basic image enhancements are being done. But this was 
mainly IP re-use, so I should not claim much credit for that. 

Much more work has gone into the design of the software stack than 
into the hardware design. You do not want to know how many manyears 
that has cost. And even if you did, I'm not gonna tell ya...
