In situations (on other boxes) where you have a "channel of death" you can sometimes power up with the antenna disconnected. I think the WalMart receiver had one like that where you had to sometimes disconnect the antenna during a scan. I've also had various PCHD cards that were sensitive to various channels. For instance, my F3Q card can hang if tuned to certain encrypted cable channels and would also hang on Fox during commercials sometimes.
