The luxury market can be quite lucrative...but it is tiny in terms of CE volumes. Plasma and large LDC panels are a staple of both the trade show and digital signage businesses. There are plasma panels at the entrances to the subway all over Manhatten. And then there is the museum business and the special venue business. And most corporations have very exotic displays in their board rooms and presentation rooms. I think a quick look at sales of plasma panels will confirm that Business is still the largest market segment for these panels...and it is growing. Given the healthy price tag that is likely to accompany a 102" plasma panel, I must question whether upscale videophiles will move in this direction. My guess is that they will find DLP front projectors more attractive on several fronts: 1. Even larger screen sizes 2. Better image quality 3. Potentially lower cost. Regards Craig P.S. We ordered the 50" Samsung RPDLP DTV monitor yesterday. So now I too am joining the 16:9 crowd. The saleperson at Sears said that a SONY 60" RPLCD monitor, which sells for about $3,500, is one of their top selling units. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
