The 2nd Amendment was drafted to allow for state militias to be armed
against a new Federal Government that the individual states at the time
were very wary of. Recent IMO bad interpretations of it still allow for
very stringent gun control laws including what guns you can own, who can
own them and where and when they can be carried or used. See Scalia's
opinion.
IMO because of the gross misunderstanding of what the 2nd Amendment was and
is it should be repealed.
IMO we should follow the example of countries like Australia, Germany or
even Japan, especially Japan.
I have a brother in law in Germany who owns a gun and the requirements he
had to go thru to get it and use it are instructive. He is REQUIRED to
shoot a certain number of deer, pigs each year. His gun is stored at an
armory. He chafes at this but MOST of these gun laws and requirements were
PROMULGATED by those who own or would own guns themselves. This is more
like the NRA was earlier in my lifetime.

Clearly we have some major societal issues with mental health, and law
enforcement (or lack thereof) today. Trying to ignore the problems often
leads to disasters like Parkland.
The 2nd Amendment is there to protect us from an overreaching government
that ignores out constitutional rights. Never in our history has this been
more obvious, as we continue to learn about the abuses of power at the DOJ
and FBI.
