Averna is a company that makes protocol analysis gear used by the cable
industry. They created the white paper at the link below to discuss the
challenges the cable industry faces in deploying DOCSIS 3.1. We have already
touched on some of these issues, specifically available bandwidth, condition of
the plant in terms of SNR, and the need to deploy DOCSIS 3.1 in a manner that
is compatible with existing services while maintaining backward compatibility
to DOCSIS 3.0 and even older modems.
This white paper is a bit self-serving to Averna, but section 3 does an
excellent job of describing how DOCSIS 3.1 will be deployed, and the challenges
the cable industry faces with the deployment.
