This seems a bit misleading.
What percentage of online news consumption comes from print and TV news
organizations?
There is no question that there is a generational shift to online consumption,
although us old folks are ALSO getting news online. Talk radio reaches as many
people, perhaps more than the TV evening news - this does not seem to be
reflected in the graphic. But there is an important caveat in the fine print -
this study is based on results from 36 countries, not just the U.S.
And then there is another important reality about Millennials that is NOT
mentioned in this study: Many of the sources they use for news are not what we
would traditionally call "news." Social Media news feeds - often fake news -
are a major factor, as are entertainment programs like The Daily Show, and the
late night comedy/talkers that parody news events.
The reality is that there are not many reliable "news sources" left. Opinion
and commentary now dominate what we think of as journalism.
Internet and TV news are the most used, but skewed exactly the opposite. As
expected, online heavier for the youger set, and TV heavier for the older
set. But still, even the older demographic gets their news online *far* more
than they do from radio or print.
Again, much of this is just a more convenient way to access legacy news
sources...
Social media play a bigger part in providing news for the younger set.
TOO BIG - most of this is not news, its pop culture and propaganda.

Craig
