Goggle is doing exactly what the telcos are doing - waiting for the technology
for fixed wireless broadband to mature. We’ve been over this many times.
The major benefits will include:
- a huge reduction in cost for last quarter-mile infrastructure
- a significant reduction in power usage based on the improved efficiency of
MIMO antennas
- The ability to easily interoperate with cellular standards and Wi-Fi,
improving overall service and enabling new forms of bundling that will lead to
lower overall prices for both cellular and fixed wireless broadband.
The major barriers include:
- The costs and delays associated with governmental approvals, fees, and taxes
- The desire to create new government revenue streams based on the need to
deploy millions of devices requiring pole attachments.

Which just goes to show, guess what, deploying broadband is expensive still.
Even with some of the "last mile" using fixed RF. Which is why net neutrality
guarantees MATTER. This supposed huge increase in ISP choice has yet to
materialize. Until and unless, the FCC has to do the job it has done, for its
entire existence.
