Yes, there are plenty of rumors running around that MS may buy one of the large antivirus companies. They are quite profitable, so it would make financial sense. However, this would be the worst form of "moral hazard", as anti-virus companies are in the insurance business, and Microsoft would be insuring against their own bad code. (Isn't this analogous to Pete Rose betting on baseball?) I think that this move would accelerate the momentum behind Linux, so go right ahead, MS!
