Received the following from Bill Ruck's wife today: I was able to talk to Bill for a few minutes this morning. He doesn't remember the accident - didn't know what hit him (it was a car, not a truck) and was surprised to hear that his hip was broken. He wasn't able to talk too long but he sounds like himself (though I suspect he's on some pretty substantial meds at the moment). His roommate (who has the advantage of not being sedated) said that Bill came through surgery very well, and now has a few pins in his femur and a cast on his leg. He still has a breathing tube to help with his deflated lung, but that should be coming out tomorrow, and they'll be able to cut back on some of the sedatives at that point. They expect that he will be able to start rehab in the next 2-3 days, and may be released from the hospital as early as this weekend. At this point, the whole issue of him staying or returning to the US is up in the air. Obviously the project has to keep moving, so I guess they have someone else enroute to pick up his part of the work. He won't be allowed to fly for at least 2-3 weeks because of the lung, and the broken hip would make a 15 hour flight problematic. If he has some mobility and feels up to it, they may have him work some, since he can't go anyplace anyway. It will still be a few days or more before this picture gets clearer. I'll be heading over at some point, but haven't made plans yet. Bill said I should wait until my already scheduled trip in June, but that may have been the drugs talking. The other possibility is that I'll head over this weekend, to be there when he gets out of the hospital. Haven't been able to get a good mailing address yet, but hope to when I next communicate with his roommate. I am compiling all of the wishes, prayers and thoughts that you've sent and will be forwarding them to his roommate, who'll print them out and bring them to Bill when he visits tomorrow. (I did tell him about all of these responses when we talked today.) If you want to send a card, one option would be to send them to our house and I'll send over a batch via FedEx, or hand carry them if I head over this weekend. Finally, I just want to say thanks for all the messages of support and goodwill. I truly appreciate it during this rather trying episode, and we are both lucky to know so many good, caring people. Thank you. Siobhan <siobhanruck@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> It's not unusual to have no memory of such an accident. Keep Bill in your thoughts and prayers. It's not over yet. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Larry Bloomfield, KA6UTC The Road Show - A Taste of NAB 1980 25th St. Florence, OR 97439 (541) 902-2424 Home/Office/Cell ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
