I'm not sure that there is as much synergy between the V8* and Google TV announcements as Kon infers.

Google's You Tube has already migrated to h.264 and Google TV devices will certainly need to deal with h.264, most likely taking full advantage of hardware acceleration.

From here, it looks like the time that Eric Schmidt spent with Steve Jobs (on Apple's Board) is starting to pay dividends. Traditional CE vendors like Sony have FAILED to understand how to transform the big screen experience. Now Apple and Google are showing them the way.

Steve gets to play Pied Piper and focus on the most lucrative high end users, while Google provides the platform for the mass market.

And Microsoft starts to look more and more like IBM. Perhaps X-Box will keep them viable in the consumer space for a few more years...
