Recently Bert has questioned the value of localism in broadcasting, noting that
the content people want to watch is NOT local. I countered that the value of
localism is in the ability for advertisers to reach their local markets.
Nothing illustrates this better than what just happened in the suburbs of
Atlanta, where there was a special election for Georgia's 6th Congressional
District. Between the primary and the runoff held yesterday a total of more
than $50 MILLION was spent on this election - a new national record for a
Congressional race.
Most of that money - $42 MILLION - was spent on ads placed with Atlanta TV and
radio stations and cable systems.
Nice haul!

Craig
