I have met several GMs. What I was referring to is, since they supposedly have the ultimate authority at a station, if they watched very much and got as annoyed as I do about commercial audio so cleverly processed as to waken the dead, even if the VU meter or even light-line peak meters do not hit near the red zone, they might ask the advertisers if it is really a good idea to rankle their intended targets. Fearing to tickle the hand that feeds them, they might at least tell the finance guru to loosen up a bit when engineering asks for funds for countermeasures. Also they might suggest to producers that, even on shows targeted to youth, it might be nice if the background rock music didn't obliterate the dialog.
