It's funny how hype about the latest innovation tends to repeat itself. Back in the 1960s and '70s, everything was about mainframes. You'd have this one central computer to control every system in your house. In the 1990s, it was all about PCs. Evey house would have its central PC server, to store all your music, to house your TV tuner, your PVR, etc., for the whole house. Now it's the tablet (or the iPhone). Every aspect of your life centers around apps for the central tablet in everyone's life. The latest toy always has to become THE central device in your life, according to the pundits. But it never turns out that way. How many times have we been through this? The true innovation was when microcomputers became incorporated INTO every applicance, specifically because you don't need or want to rely on a central device. The smarts and the controls are federated.
