Harry,
Sorry I am laughing at where you say we would be babysitter for parents to go
on a drive, this would be a problem as we need to make sure that a parent is
always with the child, as we cannot be held responsible if something were to
happen while they were out on a test drive or shopping or anything else. what
if something were to like happened with the NMRA and said we did something
inappropriate? what is the child fell and got hurt somehow? does the club have
insurance to cover if someone sues us while we do this "babysitting"? who is
there to say it did not happen? yes I am opening that can of worms as to
protect the club from any potential lawsuit that could arise from such a case,
that is why when we do KRT there has to be a parent with the kid as they go
around the track so cover our butts. the only time there is not a parent
usually is when it is a volunteer like at Thomas days and they are over 16
years old.
I do not mind doing KRT as long as the parent is present at the location.
Just my opinion,
Annette

Thank you for voicing your opinions.
The EBoard needs to hear and LEARN what more members are thinking.
We would be obtuse to ignore your thoughts.
Inland Empire has found a setup for a month.
Not a locker replacement.
OCMR would be pleased to find either.
I also know that you are among the FEW
who expended an effort to contact local malls
in behalf of future displays.
Please keep up the effort.
Someday, one of us may find an "angel" host.
OC has a higher density of buildings
and therefore many more that are empty.
Just need to find ONE that believes our railroad
would bring traffic to them.
Charlie's Moulton Museum may be a first.
I've had this same thought about auto centers.
Perhaps an aggressive OCMR member or a TBD committee
will contact some of them.
Our new video should help to convince
a showroom manager that we could draw a crowd.
Auto centers hold weekend "sales events."
OCMR would make a good "baby sitter" for kids
while the parents "go for a drive."
In that vein, we don't need to be the draw,
just babysit the kids. Dealership could provide
popcorn and hot dogs and all will be entertained.
I've discussed this with a relative who has
managed a Cadillac and other marks for 24 years.
He told me that high end dealerships don't need us,
because their kids stay at home with someone else.
However, dealerships with mid or lesser range marks
could use a "babysitter."
SC is not home to many train shows.
For OCMR to wait for them is a non-event.
We already have collected the home shows and some museums.
We need members looking for other non-train show venues.
Auto centers
Malls
Strip malls
Museums
etc.
These are all PUBLIC venues
where we can find new members
to better deflect our locker fees.
My reply goes to all our members.
KEEP LOOKING -- for venues and new members.

This is exactly what I was talking about when I sent my e-mail a while back.
It does not change the type of club we are. We still will be a modular club.
This is a place not only to meet and run trains but a place to work together
and work on our modules.
With the pandemic and the new retail environment there should be either retail
space or warehouse space available for us to use. We should try and find a
place that has empty laces and we could even get the least desirable rental
space [as long as it is big enough] so that there is less pressure for the
landlord to fill.
It may be tough to get through to the leasing agents but is worth a try.
I do not get to Orange County on a regular basis but even in OC there must be
vacant spaces that we could use and actually help the center attract visitors
and customers.
