Here’s my Present Day Intermodal train I’m currently working on, I started
drawing it last year and finished it today.Note the Bicentennial GEVO’s #2076
and #1976, the train is 37 cars long.

As we close out 2020, (none too soon),
and since we can't go anywhere to celebrate,
I thought it a proper occasion to share
one of my "doins."

The attached photo shows some of the engines
I've rescued from my RIP track.
Now I know, Harry having more engines
is like taking coal to Newcastle.

OK then, lets talk coal.

Counting top down, there are 8 rows.
1.  Atop them all is a Broadway custom.
    It was released as a Hybrid NYC Mohawk,
    but the owner removed the smoke lifters and added
   the Elesco feed water heater, decaled and weathered.
    Now a great runner having adjusted the quartering.

2.  Second row are two Bachmann sound 2-6-0's.
    Released many years ago, they began having pickup problems.
    A taste of Nano oil fixed them.  Good to go for another couple years.

3.  One of the few MTH engines I own.
    Bad thing about MTH, is that they don't run with other brands
    and the CV's don't conform to NMRA standards.
    Other than that, they are fine products.
    Past member Joe Villaryo had TWO of them!
    I purchased mine on the cheap at a swap meet.
    It had only been TRO, 10 feet, and then BLI released their engine.
    Owner bought the BLI and sold me his "brand new" MTH for $250.
    Great sound and lights.

4.  An MTH challenger.  As many of you have observed,
    I seldom run a single powered engine, so the earlier 4-12-2
    needed a friend.  Since I could not find a second in my price range,
    and since they were superseded by Challengers,
    I found an early MTH 4-6-6-4.
    Just my style, cheap and didn't run.
    Problem was that this was an early MTH drawbar design.
    It connected electrically by pushing the drawbar UP into the tender.
    Up meant gravity was not its friend and it would come loose in its socket.
    The engine would still make noise, but the motor lost its connection.
    Re-wiring the drawbar and quartering fixed the problems.
    Now I have a fine pair of big MTH steam.

5&6 Stewart makes nice heavy engines that pull better than Athearn
    and most other brands.  Shells don't have the detail, but the
    mechanisms are very good.  These were pre-DCC without sound.
    Adding DCC is a quick conversion.  Adding LED's for MARS and headlight
    was not a big effort.  If I find a 3rd unit or even a BLI, I'll add sound.
    Otherwise, good to go for "short" 35-45 car trains.

8.  Skipping to the trio of PRR FA engines.  These are early Life-Like, pre
Walthers.
    Again a cheap, under $50 Ebay find.  Two were powered, did not run.
    Now all 3 are dummies and will run tucked into a coal drag or other PRR
train.
    All Life-Like engines tend to suffer the same problem.
    The lubricant turns to mud, then glue.  You can burn out the motor
    before the unit will move.
    However, they disassemble easily and my ultra-sonic cleans them well.

7.  A trio of Life-Like Lehigh Valley FA engines.  Only LV I own and purchased
just
    because of their nice looking paint scheme.  All powered.  I've had these
awhile.
    The owner sent them with a hand written note:
            "Glad you were able to attend the games.
            We were rooting for the Angels also.
            Percival's wife is my sister-in-laws OB patient.
            Hope the locos are as good for you as they were for me."
    Troy Percival was the Angel's premier closer during their WS win in 2002.
    That's when I purchased this Ebay trio for $52.01.
    They've been in the box for 18 years!  Now refurbed and ready to go.
    Took them to Bakersfield, but did not run them there either.
    Looking to our next show, so I can test them, -- 19 years later!
