Thanks for raising this question with us. Both "tortuous" and "torturous"
are indeed proper English words. "Tortuous" means "twisted, winding,
convoluted", while "torturous" means "being a torture, or torture-like".
(Incidentally, Google recognised both of them when I tried a search for
myself, and didn't suggest replacing one with the other.)
The two words are very frequently mixed up, but we're reasonably certain
that we've corrected a mix-up rather than introducing one. "Tortuous" has
been replaced with "torturous" three times in the Project Aon edition:
twice referring to the construction of Helgedad (which was a *torture* for
the Giaks), and once referring to Lone Wolf's struggle against an evil
entity that attacks his mind. You could certainly argue that the latter was
both tortuous and torturous, but I think we've gone with the right word in
the end.
