Subject: Giak language in The Magnamund Companion.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi all,
I've been looking at the section of The Magnamund Companion that deals with the
Giak language, and was hoping that someone might be able to help my
understanding. I just cannot reconcile the explanation of grammar and sentence
structure (page 70) with some of the translations given (pages 74-75).
For example:
On page 74, exercise 2, you are asked to translate the sentence 'The human
wizard is strong'. The answer given on page 75 is 'Ziran orgadak tukor'. A
literal translation of this into English is 'Wizard human strong'. This is the
correct word order, but it seems to me like it is lacking a verb: to be. I
believe the sentence should be 'Ziran orgadak narg tukor'.
Has anybody else ever tried to understand the rules for Giak? I've found half a
dozen other points that *may* be inconsistent, but I don't want to bother the
list if this kind of thing is outside our remit (or nobody cares).
Regardless of the above, some errata:
Page 70:
Remove line-break between 'doomwolf black of' and 'Forest Great'. All 5 words
constitute the object of the sentence.
Page 75:
#3: bedroom -> bedroom.
#5: rannas -> rannad
(... meaning 'past tense'. 'rannas' is not a Giak work.)
