Regarding the PDFs, we're currently translating XML source data into
LaTeX which then can be manually tweaked before translating it into a
PDF. This follows two principles that we've tried to adhere to when
possible. The first is single-source publishing. The other is using
open-source software. There are some books that we haven't followed
this with (e.g. the Magnamund Companion) because of the need for
precise, ad hoc page layout that LaTeX doesn't seem well suited to. If
you have any thoughts, please feel free to share.
