> I imagine this was hotly debated to start with, but nonetheless: <snip> Wow. This is the best grammar fight I've heard in years. Let me add this: please snip some of the commented message length from your emails when you reply. Those of us who read in Digest form get headaches trying to find the actual replies in amongst all the comments. So, serial comma: settle down. Pick one or the other and stick with it. The Brits hate it and the Americans are typically apathetic about it. My feeling is not to use it unless you need it for clarification. If it is used, as long as it is dropped when it would cause confusion, I do not care. My American pride would not be hurt either way. Wikipedia: He pointed out Wikipedia as a point of explanation, not justification. Those of us who said, "What the heck's a serial comma" are now all the wiser. Pleasantly, that wikipedia article did point to many valid sources. These included the Oxford Style Manual, the U.S. Government Printing Office Style Manual, etc. So, in short, SETTLE DOWN. This is not a slashdot discussion where you need to take petty offense and attempt to belittle and defeat your naysayers. Game on.
