Min amerikanske korrespondent, sf-författaren John Dalmas, driver sedan en tid
tillbaka en blog. Han låter meddela:

Mainly, in blogging, I'm sorting out my thinking on a variety of
subjects, but the latter of the above list ?? "The Real World..." is
the foreword of ARMFELT, a historical novel in process. The first 22
chapters of Armfelt are posted now on my sfwa site:

ARMFELT is being written for three niche audiences, (1)
Scandinavian-Americans interested in their ethnic/historical roots; (2)
history buffs and especially buffs of military history; and (3)
old-country Scandinavians curious about what an American novelist might
make of that particular campaign.
When I started the project, I had no notion of niche (3), but when I
was over there in 1992, doing research, I ran into three librarians who
assured me that niche could be a meaningful market. And my new agent
says there are publishers in Europe interested in publishing selected
English-language novels in *English,* without translation! And she
would like to try it out on them. So I'm plugging along on it and
pleased with my progress. (Also enjoying it mightily!) I hope to have
a complete draft finished by the time the leaves are out. (That's why
my blog entries aren't closer together.)
AE igen: Jag har läst delar av Armfeldt-boken tidigare, och den handlar om
Armfeldts misslyckade fälttåg mot Norge - det som ledde till katastrofen på
fjällen under återtåget, då stora delar av hans armé frös ihjäl. En av de stora
militära katastroferna i vår historia, och upopenbarligen baserad på dålig
planering och dåligt förutseende.
Jag träffade Dalmas när han besökte Norden 1992 (då gjorde han även research
för Armfeldt-boken). Han har skrivit en lång rad böcker (närmare 30-talet) inom
sf-genren och är av svensk-amerikansk härkomst (han kan t ex läsa svenska, och
tala det möjligen litet sämre).
