Stalin och hans anhängare dömde ut eugeniken som en "borgerlig" och
"fascistisk" vetenskap. Sovjetiska eugeniker försökte då under en period
omdefiniera sin verksamhet som "medicinsk genetik", men också detta föll i onåd
och försvann i slutet av 1930-talet: "In the late 1920s, in the wake of Joseph
Stalin's 'Great Break', eugenics came under intense critique as a 'bourgeois'
science and its proponents quickly reconstituted their enterprise as 'medical
genetics'. Yet, after a brief period of rapid growth during the early 1930s,
medical genetics was dismantled as a 'fascist science' towards the end of the
decade."
Artikeln behandlar inte efterspelet, men det som ersatte den "borgerliga" och
"fascistiska" eugeniken i Sovjetunionen blev helt uppenbart just lysenkoismen.
Wiki: "In 1935, Lysenko compared his opponents in biology to the peasants who
still resisted the Soviet government's collectivization strategy, saying that
by opposing his theories the traditional geneticists were setting themselves
against Marxism. Stalin was in the audience when this speech was made, and he
was the first one to stand and applaud, calling out 'Bravo, Comrade Lysenko.
Bravo.' This event emboldened Lysenko and gave him and his ally Prezent free
rein to slander the geneticists who still spoke out against him. [...]
Soviet scientists were forced to denounce any work that contradicted Lysenko's
research. Criticism of Lysenko was denounced as 'bourgeois' or 'fascist'."
