HG Wells met many. Stalin too! He was granted an interview with Stalin in1934
when a group of foreign writers visited Moscow. He had then just met US
President Roosevelt. The interview was published in The New Statesman:

Wells: I am very much obliged to you, Mr Stalin, for agreeing to see me. I was
in the United States recently. I had a long conversation with President
Roosevelt and tried to ascertain what his leading ideas were. Now I have come
to ask you what you are doing to change the world . . .
Stalin: Not so very much."
Not so very much... Except: Creating famine in the Ukraine killing millions.
Shooting peasants who owned a cow (so called "kulaks"). Sending millions to
work camps in Siberia where many died. Etc etc.
Well's was a political idiot. And it is he himself who later in the
interview claims to be "more to the left" than Stalin. Wells also covers the
meetings with Stalin and Roosevelt in his autobiography.
As for HG Wells meeting Lenin if you see the picture...

...you get a feeling it is a montage. Faking photos was very common in the
USSR. The light and shadows on Lenin don't seem to match those on Wells. (But
I'm not sure)
