Lennart Svensson (kommentarer om denne senare) har utgivit en "boklång essä" på
engelska, betitlad Science Fiction Seen from the Right (Manticore Press,
Australien, 2016 - det syns vara en s k Small Press Publisher, men ingen tycks

"This book is about sf and fantasy literature, seen from the political and
existential right-wing. And my definition of "right" … is "a man adhering to
traditional, eternal values". These eternal values can be exemplified as: duty,
honor, honesty, accountability, selflessness, modesty, fidelity, faith,
courage, justice, mercy, clemency, compassion, magnanimity, eqanimity – values
that are in harmony with the eternal natural law, with Dharma and Tao, with
Physis and Lex Naturalis. To vindicate these ideals is what I do as a man of
the right. I honor Tradition. To systematically embrace eternal values within a
spiritual framework of Christianity, Hinduism and the Ancient Way of the West,
of esoteric strains in Greek, Roman and Norse thought, is called
traditionalism."
Svensson skildrar en rad författare, som Heinlein, Frank Herbert, CS
Lewis,Tolkien, Ernst Jünger, Clarke, Moorcock, Ballard,Borges, Burroughs,
Lovecraft.
Boken har uppmärksammats på en utländsk E-postlista och jag lånar en del
kommentarer därifrån av JH Holmberg: "/Svensson's/ political views reached a
point where many considered him a fascist ... a few years ago he wrote a
lengthy essay on the Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik,where
Svensson again noted his own rejection of violence as a political strategy but
otherwise expressed his sympathy for Breivik's motives and views; that cost him
his then job in a Swedish university library. And his brand of religiously
flavored extreme nationalism, where ethnicity and cultural traditionalism are
supreme values, strikes me as deeply totalitarian and on a more personal level
as disgusting. /Svensson/ misreads authors ... he praises Heinlein for
"challenging diverse holy principles" like "criticizing universal suffrage
(Starship Troopers), discussing race differences (Sixth Column, Farnham's
Freehold), positing that … heroism and patriotism are viable attidudes (Glory
Road)", but to me it would seem that these points are either misunderstood or
hardly any main ingredients in the works mentioned, whereas attitudes Svensson
deplores in Heinlein (his "libertinism") seem to me integral parts of his
outlook."
Trots att förlaget själv (förstås) hyllar innehållet, och mer i linje med JHH:s
skeptiska synpunkter, känns detta som en ganska bisarr publikation! Man kan
betvivla att Svensson besitter en "deep knowledge" om fantastik (JHH pekar på
hur han missförståt Heinlein t ex). Svensson anser sig skildra sf "från höger"
och menar att det definieras som "duty, honor, honesty, accountability,
selflessness, modesty, fidelity, faith, courage, justice, mercy, clemency,
compassion, magnanimity, eqanimity..."
Det är inte små anspråk hr Svensson har! I sin tröttsamt långa, rabblande
övertalningsdefinition av sin världsbild glömmer han begrepp som chauvinism,
militärism, rasism, isolationism, intolerans.
Lennart Svensson är ganska isolerad. Han egenpublicerar böcker som till stor
del utgörs av blodig militär-sf (kanske är detta Manticore Press någon form av
egenpubliceringstjänst? - jag vet inte), i alla fall såvitt jag kan se utifrån
att ha studerat böckerna på en svensk con för några år sedan (där Svensson hade
ett bokförsäljningsbord). Han har inte varit aktiv i fandom i någon märkbar
grad på ett par decennier.
Man kan hoppas att Science Fiction Seen from the Right inte ger omvärlden en
vrångbild av hur genren betraktas i Sverige. Lennart Svenssons utsiktspunkt är
minst sagt udda.
