Donal,

To show values in sheet 2 that are entered in a cell in sheet 1, you need to
set up a reference cell in sheet 2. Then when you put a value in the cell in
sheet 1 it will appear automatically in the cell in sheet 2

You can get help on this if you put the word "reference" in the help search
window.

Let us say that you enter a grade for an assignment in column C in sheet 1
and set column f in sheet 2 to show the value in sheet 1 for the same
person. For clarity let's take the person at row 3 in sheet 1 who appears in
row 6 in sheet 2.
The procedure is this:
In cell f6 in sheet2 type "=Sheet1!C3".

When you sort sheet 2 by alpah and end up with a different sequence of
records, the relationship will remain intact and the correct grade will
still accompany the original name.

I hope this is what you needed.

All the best,

Cearbhall

Subject: [vicsireland] Any advanced EXCEL users on this list?

Hi all,

This is a tricky one. I have an Excel 2010 workbook with two sheets. they
both contain the same data but each is sorted differently. the first by an
ID for assignment groups, the second alphabetically.

What I want to do is to enter a grade for an assignment in sheet 1, and have
the appropriate cell in sheet 2 updated. I'm sure it's possible to do this
I just don't know how.

Any help appreciated.
