Damien, I think you need to separate Skype and Drop box completely. There is no comparison between them. Please forget Skype, it has no relation to this process in any way. 1. You said in your previous email that you have set up the new folder in your Drop Box on your PC. Is that correct? 2. To follow the normal procedure you open drop box and highlight the new folder name. Do not open this folder. Just right click on the folder name. You do this by hitting the application key and arrowing down to the drop box item on the context menu. If you prefer, you can use shift-F10 to open this menu. Once you are on the drop box item in the menu, you arrow right and you will see three options. Now arrow down until you see "Share this folder". When you press enter on this, Drop box opens a web page that has a form at the top of the page where you put in the email address of the person you want to invite to share this folder. After you have put in the email address of your cousin, press tab once to type a message to him. Tab again to the send button. 2. Your cousin now receives an email which invites him to accept your invitation. When your cousin accepts this invitation the Drop Box application is downloaded to his PC if he does not already have it there. After this download completes your cousin should find Drop box in the My documents folder with your folder inside it. 3. Your cousin simply places his documents, images or whatever else you are both sharing into his folder in Drop box on his PC. Drop Box then automatically passes these files into your folder without you or your cousin doing anything more about them. 4. Now every file you put into the folder appears on his computer without either of you doing anything else. If you delete the file, it disappears from his folder as well. That is how Drop box works. Can you spell out the steps that you have taken to link to your cousin? I can only help you if I know exactly what steps you have taken. Hi Cearbhall. Thanks for this. I think we're almost there. So, when my cousin uploads the files, presumably he goes to the drop box website and then searches for me. Is that right? I will of course send him an email with the name of the folder to upload to. All the best Damien. -----Original Message----- From: vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Cearbhall O'Meadhra Sent: 30 June 2013 19:42 To: vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Drop box. Damien, Just for clarity I thought I should respond directly to each of your points as follows: You said: "The folder is not within the e-speak folder. As soon as I open drop box on my desktop, it's there underneath e-speak. " Me: That's perfect'! Now you have total control of the new folder and can invite anyone else to share it with you. You: "Am I correct in thinking that when a file is uploaded to a particular account, the person uploading that file has to be invited, like Skype. Is this correct?" Me: Not exactly. With Skype you are sharing a link between your account and that of the other person. With Drop Box you are sharing folders, not accounts. You invite the other person to share your folder rather than a particular file. They are then free to upload any file they wish to that folder and you will automatically receive the same file in your copy of the same folder. The folder is like an open hatch that you are both sharing and you can each see any file that is put in that folder whether it is put there by you or by the other person. Let me know if this clarifies things or not. Damien, This depends on where you have set up your new folder. If you set up under espeak as in "dropbox\espeak\damien's folder\" we would all see it because it is within the eSpeak folder. If, however, you set up the folder directly under dropbox and without opening eSpeak as in "dropbox\Damien's folder\", we would not see it as we are only sharing the eSpeak folder. Which of these applies to the way you have set up the folder? Hi Cearbhall. Thanks for this. I've set up a new folder in drop box on my desktop. Am I write in thinking that unless I deliberately upload this folder then no-one else in the e-speak group will get it? Or is it uploaded automatically? Damien, You can set up any number of new folders in your existing drop box at the same level as the eSpeak one. You now own the Dropbox account that is on your PC. I did try to set up a second account once but Drop box always tries to place itself in the "my documents" folder and so it refused to download for me when it discovered a dropboxfolder already there. . You could try setting up the new folders first and see if that gives you the storage that you are looking for. Hi everyone. Does anyone know if you can have more than one free account with drop box? I have drop box on my desktop where I receive updates from the e-speak project, but, I have a family event coming up and I'm having photos, videos etc sent from a family member in Canada. Obviously, I don't want these to go to the e-speak group, but, am not sure what I need to do. Do I need to set up another drop box account as I was invited into the e-speak one? All the best Damien. =========================================================== The vicsireland mailing list To unsubscribe at any time send a mail to: vicsireland-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe", without the quotes in the subject of the message.
