Hi Gerry,

you may be having some other difficulty but with JAWS itself. Which version of JAWS are you using to access the site? Presumably, you're trying to access www.comreg.ie - which I have no difficulty browsing, using versions of JAWS up to and including JAWS11. ComReg is the popular name for the Commission for Communication Regulation, which is the public body responsible for regulating and licensing conditions for the use of all sorts of wireless and telecommunications equipment in this jurisdiction. . Now there are many publications downloadable as pdf documents from the site. there are settings near the top of the site (as JAWS reads it) to enlarge or decrease text size, etc.

There is in fact a Contact us link on the site.

Hi Mark,

I recently tried to access comreg's website but found it impossible using Jaws as all the links came up as numbers. As I understand it comreg is a private company not an actual public body even though it provides info for the consumer so how do things stand in this respect. Can yyou make representations to them as I would have but the email link couldn't be found
Gerry

You have a legal right to access public buildings, services and information on the web and in print in formats that meet your needs. All you have to do is ask. NCBI has created an easy to read guide that leads you step-by-step through the process of requesting access, making a complaint if it is denied and, if necessary, taking it further until you get satisfaction. The guide is available on the NCBI website at www.ncbi.ie/living/exercising-your-rights/buildings-services-info.

Did you know that all public websites must be accessible to people with vision impairments using assistive technology? You should have equal access to useful and important services like like the Revenue online tax service, timetables and bookings for bus or train, government reports, public consultations and local authority planning services. Some of these have already been made accessible, many with the help of NCBI's Centre for Inclusive Technology (CFIT).

Did you know that public bodies must make all their publications available on request in alternative formats such as Braille, large print and audio? This includes important publications like the Lisbon Treaty, the swine flu leaflet and the budget. Some of these were made available with the help of NCBI's Library and Media Centre and supplied to people on request.

But often you will still come across buildings and information that is not accessible. One of the things holding back accessibility is that few people ask for it. NCBI wants to make sure that you know how to ask for it and what you can do if it is not supplied to you.

So exercise your rights and ask for what you want. Go to www.ncbi.ie/living/exercising-your-rights/buildings-services-info to read the step-by-step guide.
