Hi,

One particular thing of interest in the below is that you can now email a
picture or a pdf document which is a scanned image to robobraille and it
will convert it to your desired format.

I tried this with a pdf doc I had which was a scanned image, and the results
were pretty impressive.

Of course, I assume the quality of conversion will depend greatly on the
quality of the input file.

See below for more details.

Tim

New input and output formats for RoboBraille

Now RoboBraille supports a range of new input and output formats. Among
other things, this means that you can send an image file ? for example a
scanned document ? to britspeech@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or
eightdot@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx In response RoboBraille automatically converts the
image file to an accessible text file and subsequently send respectively an
audio or a Braille version of the text back to you.

RoboBraille in Arabic is under development

Within the next months RoboBraille will be capable of translating from
Arabic text to synthetic speech and Braille. Furthermore, there will be
worked on an adjustment of RoboBraille, so the service in the future can
deal with sms and mms. This is given rise to by a Danida-founded
business-to-business project, which is meant to develop text to
speech-solutions for mobile phones.

RoboBraille goes to Poland

In recent months, the RoboBraille team has been working on getting
RoboBraille settled in Poland. Even though emails and Skype are good for
many things, those media can?t compete with showing up in person. Therefore
project manager Søren Pretzmann has spent the last week in Poland.
