All The Best Ed -----Original Message----- From: vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Tony Murray Sent: 09 May 2006 10:06 To: VICS Subject: [vicsireland] Final Update Hi VICS Members, This is the final Chairperson's update for this VICS year. Since last time I wrote, most of the Committee's work has been concerned with this coming weekend's events. Nearly everything is set-up for our twentieth anniversary celebration this Friday. There are a couple of minor things outstanding on my to-do list, but I'm confident we'll have all in order come the big day. There is a piece about what is happening in the news section of our website at: http://www.vicsireland.org The list of speakers is impressive, including our very own Gerry Ellis, Natasha Miskella and Ronan MCGuirk. Ronan will be the keynote speaker for the evening, presenting on his new white paper. For those attending the anniversary celebration, I'd ask you to review the white paper on our website. It can be found at the following link: http://www.vicsireland.org/information/white_paper.html Other speakers on the night will include Terry Landers, head of corporate affairs at Microsoft, Joshue O'Connor from the Centre For Inclusive Technology at the NCBI, and Brian Buckly, portal development manager at AIB. See the website for details. The press release has gone out, and already articles about the event have been written and put in magazines. For copies of the press release, please mail me offlist. Our AGM will take place the following day on Saturday 13th of May. We will start at 2:00 PM. It will be held in the headquarters of The Irish Computer Society, Crescent Hall, Mount Street Crescent, Dublin 2. I've attached directions to the event, both for bus users and pedestrians. They will guide you from the city Centre to Crescent Hall. Thanks to Joan Kearns for sorting this out for us. For those attending the AGM, I'd ask you to review the minutes of last year's meeting. They can be found at: http://www.vicsireland.org/information/agm_2005.html Finally, the agenda for this year's AGM can be found at: http://www.vicsireland.org/information/agm_2006.html The current Committee will be meeting this evening for the last time this term. We will finalise arrangements for this weekend, and tie up a few loose ends as we come up to the AGM. It's been a very busy year, and in most cases the Committee's hard work has paid off. I'd like to thank them for the effort they've put in, and for putting up with me as chairperson! VICS has become quite progressive, and our links with other organisations has seen some very positive developments for us. It was a goal of mine to take VICS to a place where we had a voice, could get our views across, and project a professional image of ourselves. I feel we've done this, and it is very encouraging to see such interest in what we have to say through our white paper and website. Most importantly, I want to thank you the VICS members for your input this year. Thanks to all of you who have posted to the list, all of you who have read and learned something from the list, and all of you who have contributed to the running and success of this society. Even if you've just mentioned VICS to a friend, that's positive. We are a small but powerful group; our publications expressing our opinions and guidelines are listened to. We'd be nothing with out all of you, and I'd ask you to continue to contribute to and to support this society. I've said it before, the Committee of VICS are there to work for you all as members. It's wonderful to see the list back to it's former busy self, thanks to Paul Traynor for sorting this out for us. So, use it, send in your questions, keep communicating and keep us up to date on technical matters if you've a source. So, to finish, I hope to see as many of you as possible on Friday and/or Saturday. Both should be informative and fun events.
