Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever had experience in using media
devices that connect to your tv? A few months ago I bought an Omica
one as I find a lot of the time when friends called to my house they
wanted to watch movies I had on my computer. I use to use a HDMI
cable and have the laptop near me but that was getting a bit aquward
to do as the battery often died in the middle of watching a movie on
my laptop.

With the Omica device I bought you play your movie or music files from
the network or it has a few USB ports so you can connect up hard
drives or a usb key and the movie or music plays on the tv. If my
friends aren't around I am unable to use this device myself as it
doesn't talk at all. Only once or twice I got something to play. I
often just put what ever I want to hear on a memory key and try to
just play that but it rarely works for me. I wrote down the
instructions and memorized how many times to arrow left and right, up
and down and so on but I never really got it working.

Now I am just after selling it for almost the full price I bought it
for. A friend of mine has started buying the hardware and making a
simular device to this from scratch. Even though the interface on the
device itself isn't accessible to us he has a little website created
where we could access all our movies, music and tv shows from the
computer and play them. While the movie or music is playing there is
also the option to download all the information about it and the
lyricx of the songs. The downloading part wouldn't be accessible to
us yet. I am thinking of buying one of these devices but he charges
€400 for it. If I can get a discount I will consider buying it.

I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know if they know of any
simular devices that are completly accessible.

Thanks in advance
Mairead
