Hi Gerry. Some time ago I was having problems accessing the menus in internet explorer on my windows 8 laptop. I found the solution by accident. This may help anyone who is starting out with windows 8 and internet explorer. What you have in windows 8 are both aps and programmes. So, there are two internet explorers. If you press enter on internet explorer on the start screne, the ap will open and you won't be able to access menus. To solve the problem: 1. Go to settings by pressing ctrl + I. 2. press enter on control panel. 3. Tab to network and internet and press enter. 4. Tab to internet options and press enter. 5. Press ctrl tab until you get to the programmes tab. 6. The first option you will hear says "choose how you open links" arrow down until you hear "always in internet explorer on the desktop. 7. Press tab once and you'll hear "open internet explorer in tiles on the desktop". Make sure this option is checked. 8. tab to apply, press enter and tab to ok, press enter and your done. The next time you open internet explorer from either the start screne or the desktop or the taskbar, if you've pinned it there you'll be able to use the menus. Hope this useful Damien. -----Original Message----- From: vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of GERARD SHANAHAN Sent: 19 April 2014 17:36 To: vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Start Screen Unlimited for Windows 8 Hi Damien, I think it was you that was asking about there being no menus in certain programs like internet, I think that there might be on screen buttons instead for history, view etc. if |I'm incorrect please forgive me ----- Original Message ----- From: "Damien O'Connor" <damienmoconnor@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, April 19, 2014 9:35 AM Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Start Screen Unlimited for Windows 8 > Hi Gerry. > > I bought a laptop with windows 8 at Christmas and have updated to 8.1. > I'll > download this and let you know what it's like. > > Damien. > > _____________________________________________ >>From: vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > [mailto:vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gerry Ellis > Sent: 18 April 2014 10:47 > To: vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [vicsireland] Start Screen Unlimited for Windows 8 > > > Hi, > > For anyone who moved to Windows 8 you will know the difficulty of adopting > to the new layout, even with the return of the Start screen in version > 8.1. > > Kim Komando, who herself is partially sighted, is well respected in the > USA. > I accept that her recommendations are safe, but they are not always > accessible.
