Hi VICS Members, This is the first update of the VICS term 2006/2007 (where is the time going to?). We've had a very busy year, and we are just beginning another. Firstly, I'll talk about the Twentieth Anniversary celebration which took place at the Royal Dublin Hotel on May 12th. It was well attended, by both VICS members, and other interested parties. The presentations went very well, with fascinating talks from Ronan MCGuirk author of the white paper and one of the founding members of VICS, Terry Landers Head of Corporate Affairs at Microsoft, Josh O'Connor of CFIT, Brian Buckly of AIB, Gerry Ellis secretary of VICS and Natasha Miskella vicsireland.org webmaster. A big thank you to all who came and contributed to the night. A very special thanks to the speakers, and Ian our technical support guy for the night. Our white paper was widely circulated, and the website was praised by everyone present. Ronan and Natasha have done a fantastic job, so well done again! I got to meet a lot of people on the night, and even managed to recruit one or two associate members for VICS. It was great sitting down and chatting to the people I usually only see as names in my inbox. We enjoyed a nice few drinks, and the breaded mushrooms were under attack for the whole evening! The AGM was the next day. There was a nice crowd present, and we kicked off at around 2:15. Reports of all the projects VICS undertook were read out, and they seemed to be well received. There was a motion raised by Tim Culhane to create a position of Public Relations Officer on the committee. This motion was passed. The next thing to happen was the election of the new VICS Executive Committee. The committee for this year consists of the following: Myself as Chairperson Tim Culhane as Deputy Chairperson Gerry Ellis as Secretary Joan Kearns as Treasurer Brian Dalton as PRO Natasha Miskella Robbie Sandberg. I'd like to welcome in this very familiar looking committee, and to extend a very special welcome to our new member, Mr. Robbie Sandberg. Following this, we had an open forum where members had a chance to talk about VICS, the future, and suggest ideas for us the committee to work on. Some excellent ideas were fielded, and we've already begun implementing a few of these. We've taken note of everything that was suggested, and you'll hear more as the committee are allocated tasks in the next few weeks. The AGM was wound up at around 4:00, and the crowd dispersed quickly. I wonder had this anything to do with the F.A cup final. Thanks to all of you who attended the AGM, and I hope it was informative. Also, I'd like to thank those who mailed the list giving feedback on the AGM and Anniversary. We welcome this, and knowing that you were happy with it really makes me proud to be chairperson of this society. Finally, thanks to last year's committee again for their work. We had a very tough year, with so much on. I think it was a very successful term, and that we managed to achieve most of the goals we set out for. Given the nature of our business, many of the projects are still running, and I feel the new committee are in a great position to progress these in to the future. We will meet for the first time in a couple of weeks. As I said, you'll hear more as various working groups are set-up, existing projects are restarted and new projects are kicked off. I will continue to keep you all updated as to what is going on, and please give us feedback and ideas which you'd like to see implemented in the future.
