Hi Eamonn, Yes, you must first activate windows before downloading anything that requires the new windows validation check. This is because Microsoft doesn't want to allow downloads of a certain type to be downloaded till you prove that you are the owner of the Windows XP product. I have automatic updates enabled, and have received the "Windows Genuine Advantage" update. When I recently tried to download Internet Explorer 7, I was returned to the validation page a couple of times. Question: Is it necessary to activate Windows first, in order to get beyond the validation screen, and start downloading the latest version of Internet Explorer? If I activate Windows, How much information does BG want to know about me, apart from Name, rank and serial number! all help welcome.
