Hi Kerie,

Just want to echo similar recognition and appreciation like the other responses
to your Email, and say how good the meeting was with it being lively and very
positive. It was great that there were so many ideas and options to look at
and for us to have been able to go away with some real practical actions to be
implemented in the next few months. Thanks for chairing that crucial meeting
and also to everyone who made it such a worthwhile meeting to have attended.
Thanks to Stuart Lawler and NCBI for hosting and helping with organising
catering too, and also for his input to the meeting. Well, great meeting and
look forward to seeing everyone at the next one.

Martin

Subject: [vicsireland] Yesterday's EGM

Hi all

Firstly, I want to thank everyone who traveled, in some cases, from long
distances to be at yesterday's EGM. This was very much appreciated. Everyone
together made it a fabulous meeting which was very productive, and which some
great things have arisen out of. The purpose of this mail is to let you all
know what those things were.

most importantly firstly, VICS is still alive, well, and going strong.
We will not be going anywhere any time soon which I am delighted about. I very
much hope that these new ideas will bring and breathe new life into VICS.

With all that said, what came from yesterday's meeting was the following.

It is the committee's intention over the coming months to organise a technology
weekend, which will include the AGM. Details of this will be announced over the
coming weeks/months.
It has been decided that VICS needs someone to oversee the general running of
the society. With this in mind, it is our hope, that in collaboration with
NCBI, we will shortly appoint someone to do just that. There has been a working
group set up to design this yet unknown person's job specification and we will
be advertising and hiring this person as soon as possible. Planning of the role
etc will take some months but rest assured that as soon as there is something
to tell about the progress of this, I will post it here on the list. It is
hoped that this person will act as a point of contact for potential and
existing members, and assist us with preparing and giving talks about the
society to different groups among other things. More details will be announced
as soon as they become available.
Finally for now, it came to my attention yesterday that up to this point, for
the current year no subscription notice has been issued.
Very remiss of me I know, and I will rectify this in the coming days.

Any ideas feedback or comments you have on anything I've posted here feel free
to post to the list.
Thanks
Kerie
