Hi all,
At the recent Open Day held by VICS in Galway, I demonstrated an accessible MP3
player called the Iriver h340. This was made accessible by a piece of software
called Rockbox, which enables information to be spoken such as album names,
album tracks and the various menu's on the player itself. The player can also
be used for recording from its built-in FM radio, as well as external audio
from its microphone.
Unfortunately, this model is now difficult to obtain, but its replacement which
is called the I Audio X5 is certainly available. It comes in a 20, 30, and 60
gig size with the 20 gig retailing for 329? and the 60 gig retailing for 399?.
A place in Dublin called Back from the Future which is located on Aungier
street, is selling this model with Rockbox installed. So, you will be able to
purchase a fully functional and fully accessible mp3 player and use it right
away when you get it home.
I have just spoken to the guys in Back from the Future, and they are only too
willing to demonstrate the I Audio X5 MP3 player to anyone. They will have a
demo model with rockbox installed from next Friday, for people to get a hands
on look. If you decide you want one of these nifty gadgets, they can take an
order from you and have it in a couple of hours.
