i DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN FIND AN EASIER WAY, SHORT OF RE-ASSIGNING The CTRL-ALT-i KEYSTROKE. The ANSI value of i-acute is 0237; and you can type that in using the numberpad (by turning numlock on, then pressing and holding down the alt key, and typing from it 0237 ). Any character has an ANSI value, and several have ASCII values. ANSI and ascii ARE TWO ALTERNATIVE CODES OF REPRESENTATION, NOW BEING superseded BY uNICODE. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ed Harper" <goat@xxxxxx> To: <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, June 30, 2006 12:31 PM Subject: [vicsireland] Re: inserting a fada. Hi Tim, Thanks, I'm sure that would be the answer if I was putting up html, but I neglected to say that Our news thing is php and normally it is possible to lash in a word document and it is happy, except for the accented letters. Is there a way of getting an I accented, without it putting me in to overtype mode instead? I am going through documents looking for and removing the accents prior to putting the item in. Hi Ed, I think you will need to replace the letter with the fada with the latin-1 name of the symbol in question. Note that latin-1 is the standard alphabet used on most western european computers. For example, if you want to represent e acute in a web page, and in a way which will appear the same regardless of the operating system the page is viewed on try this: Replace the e acute symbol in your html file with: É Then save the html file and load it into your browser. You will need to replace all letters with fadas with the correct name of it. You could do this with a search and replace in your favourite editor. I believe that some html editors do this for you, but I don't know which ones. Give it a try and let us know how you get on. Hi folks, I have the reverse problem as I need to take them off in Irish pieces I put up on our news site, as it can't cope with them and puts in questionmark typed things. What I have found though is that the right alt key works fine with everything except "i" at which it toggles between insert and overtype modes. Any enlightenment?
